This is a multi-part, speculative project about an uncanny, ideological plant, trofima muraria, which grows on the roof of the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw. The piece consists of: the documentation of a the happening in front of the palace, the plant’s model in a museum display case and three videos presenting fictional speeches of scientists. Each of these speeches unveils a different version of the plant’s story, depending on the nationality and specialization of the scientist. The happening in front of the palace was a fictional demonstration against the authorities’ plans to eradicate trofima muraria as part of the process of decommunisation.
An inspiration for this piece was the revelation of the real, natural-cultural gardens growing on the rooftop of the Palace.
